Today I had a pretty big breakthrough concerning my core values and the power of integrity…and the rightly timed Katy Perry song.
During a leadership development day, we listed our top 10 core values, and then were asked to whittle them down to 5. It was tough to define what I stood for using only 5 of the values, but in the end I did it. Below is my True North.
All of a sudden I had tears in my eyes because I realized that, without giving details (This isn’t US Weekly, y’all! Sorry), my True North is wavering because I am holding back from a person I love. While I was driving home, I thought again about that realization and waited for trumpets to sound, confetti to rain down on me –in my car, or a bell to ring. Nada. The world, and my wheels, kept turning and I kept moving forward.
I know what I need to do, and per my core values, will do it with love, integrity, and grace. I turned up Katy Perry’s new jam (please, don’t act like you don’t love some a little pop every once in a while) and drove home feeling a little bit braver.
Never underestimate your core values, your instincts, or the power of turning up your radio.
